Hope to stay again soon.The station is conveniently situated for The Wharf, all restaurants, Town Hall and Churches, just a 5 minute walk away, yet the station is in a quiet beautiful location with ample free parking. The station is entered through electric gates to spectacular views of Dartmoor and the town.The Refreshment Hall offers 3 double rooms with extremely comfortable pocket sprung beds. The bedrooms are named after the engines that would have travelled on the Tavistock line and may have carried Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson from London to Tavistock. The Devon Belle, is situated on the ground floor- the romantic bedroom is designed in a shabby chic style with a king size French courbier bed- a modern ensuite including a cast iron slipper bath and walk in shower. Towels, dressing gowns, slippers, toiletries and hairdryer are provided for your use. The Royal Duchy is situated on the first floor at the front of the cottage where there are views over the Tamar Valley. A good night's sleep can be expected in the pocket sprung handmade Millbrook double bed and with a black out blind at the window an alarm clock will be needed to ensure you don't sleep in late. Towels, dressing gowns, slippers, toiletries and hairdryer are provided for your use. The Atlantic Coast Express is situated on the first floor at the rear of the cottage. A good night's sleep can be expected in the pocket sprung Harrison double bed and with a black out blind at the window an alarm clock will be needed to ensure you don't sleep in late.. Towels, dressing gowns, slippers, toiletries and hairdryer are provided for your use The First floor luxury bathroom includes a walk in shower. Only one bedroom at a time will be booked on the first floor to ensure complete privacy for our guests. The two bedrooms on the first floor can only be booked by one party. Guests on the first floor also have use of the massage chairs and reading area on the large landing of the cottage. There is a writing desk and chair in the entrance porch to write postcards or check on email. Guests have use of the ground floor lounge, where one of the original station fireplaces takes pride of place, also the dining area and kitchen where tea and coffee is provided. Food is not permitted in the bedrooms but the dining room can be used for takeaway food or snacks, but with the amazing array of eateries and food festivals in and around Tavistock, finding somewhere to enjoy good food will be a joy. Sherlock Holmes would have travelled by train to Tavistock before his onward journey over the moors to solve the famous Hound of the Baskervilles' mystery and may well have stopped in the Refreshment Hall for a liquid refreshment before travelling on by cart and horse to Baskerville Hall. Baskerville Hall, seat of the Hound-haunted Baskerville family, has always been one of the prime Gothic literary settings a dark old house in a tree-blanketed hollow under the moor with a sombre tunnel of a drive, twin towers, ivy-smothered walls and that scary Yew Alley where Sir Charles Baskerville died of sheer fright after running for his life from the Hound. The Refreshment hall has also played a part in War Horse when Peter Mullan who played Ted Narracott stayed in the cottage whilst filming on Dartmoor with Steven Spielberg.Bed and breakfast in a unique setting, where one night bookings are accepted. Tavistock Station Bed and Breakfast is in the Refreshment Hall of the grade II Victorian Railway Station situated in the historic market town of Tavistock, in a quiet location, with amazing views over Dartmoor National Park, The Tamar Valley and Tavistock which are areas of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). Tavistock itself dates back to 947 AD. The station has been awarded 5 Star Gold by Visit Britain and Best Restored Station by the National Railway Heritage Awards. The station offers ample parking. The cottage is ideal for holiday visitors, wedding guests and business travellers alike who are looking for somewhere special and different to stay, with easy access to the A386 and A30. The Refreshment Hall is a 5 minute walk from the Tavistock Registry Office, The Town Hall and other venues where weddings are regularly held. Breakfast is served in the dining area of the ground floor, and weather permitting is served on the old platform under the restored canopy where guests can really feel the atmosphere of the old station when the Devon Belle, Royal Duchy and Atlantic Coast Express made their way along the tracks (removed in 1972) between London and Plymouth. Situated in the lounge area is a flat screen TV with Sky sports, along with a music centre and DVD player. An iron and ironing board are available on request. The cottage offers free Wi-Fi, and there is a docking centre for i-players in the upstairs bedrooms and a music centre in the downstairs bedroom. Guests have use of the front garden to admire the views over Dartmoor and Tavistock. At the end of the southbound M5 take the A30, signposted OkehamptonBodmin. Travel along the A30 for approximately 27 miles43 km's. After the Okehampton junction take the next exit, the A386 to Tavistock. Travel across Dartmoor for 13 miles21 km's passing through the hamlets of Lake, Lydford and Mary Tavy. Upon entering Tavistock, Kelly College is located on the right hand side. Proceed along the A386. At the mini roundabout keep left, taking the first exit onto Dolvin Road. A cemetery is on the left. At the next roundabout take the second exit, crossing the River Tavy, then keep to the right hand side. Go straight over the mini roundabout into Bedford Square. At the next mini roundabout take the second exit, straight over, heading up the hill on Drake Road. After 200 metres220 yards pass under a railway viaduct. 15 metres16 yards later turn sharply right and immediately right again, passing under the viaduct once again and entering Quant Park. Old Tavistock Railway Station can be found 100 metres110 yards ahead, at the end of the road.
